Vending and micro markets in San Antonio, with grab-and-go gourmet meals

Workplace dining, the modern take on vending.

Raptor Vending is a San Antonio smart vending and micro market company, serving chef-made meals hot, around the clock, with no staff on site.

Smart vending and micro markets, in plain words

Raptor Vending is a San Antonio smart vending and micro market company. Our Smart Fridge™ (an AI smart cooler) and Smart Cooker™ (hot food vending) cabinets serve grab-and-go gourmet meals from Southerleigh Hospitality Group, hot, 24/7, with no staff on site. Workplace dining, the modern take on vending.

What makes it different from the row of machines in the corner is that the food is cooked by a restaurant and served hot. The meals come from Southerleigh Hospitality Group, whose restaurant, Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery, has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand three years in a row. They arrive chilled and sealed, they sit in a locked cabinet until somebody takes one, and the Smart Cooker™ beside it heats them in under 7 minutes.

And what makes it different from a micromarket is that nothing sits on an open shelf. A traditional micro market puts snacks and cold food on shelves in a break room with a self-checkout kiosk beside them, and trusts the room. A Raptor cabinet stays locked until a card or a phone is tapped against it.

The last difference is the one a property manager cares about. Raptor installs the cabinets as part of the building, on their own circuit and network connection, in a place they stay. They are not wheeled in by a vendor who visits on a schedule and leaves when the route changes.

What the building provides

Two things, and they are the building's own work rather than a fee paid to Raptor:

A dedicated 30A, 120V circuit

For the Smart Cooker™. The Smart Fridge™ is plug and play on a regular 120V outlet and does not need a circuit of its own.

A network connection

WiFi or a hardwired Ethernet cable. One port is enough; Raptor splits it to the rest of the equipment. Cellular is a backup, not the main connection.

Raptor charges no placement fees and no minimums, and never invoices the building for the program.

Where this runs in San Antonio

San Antonio is the operating market, not a territory on a map waiting to be opened. The company is based at 2020 Broadway, the meals are cooked here by Southerleigh, and the cabinets that are already serving are in the slider below rather than described twice.

Coverage runs out from the city to New Braunfels, San Marcos, Boerne, Seguin and Canyon Lake. Austin and Houston are expansion markets, which is a different thing from a market being served today, and the service areas page says which is which. Keeping the work in one region is what makes a local kitchen partnership and a four-hour response to a building possible at all.

That matters more for food than for most building systems. Meals are cooked in San Antonio, delivered sealed, and restocked by people who can be at the building the same day. A national route run from another state can promise the cabinet; it cannot promise the kitchen.

How a smart store works

There is no kiosk, no queue and nobody behind a counter. Three things happen, and the third one is the part people find hard to believe until they have done it once.

Tap a card or a phone

The cabinet is locked until it knows who you are. Tap a payment card or a phone against the reader and the door unlocks. Nothing is charged yet.

Open the door and take what you want

Not one item through a hatch. Open the door, pick up as many things as you like, put something back if you change your mind, and close it.

The cabinet charges you for exactly what you took

Cameras inside watched what left the shelf. When the door shuts, the card is charged for what is missing. No scanning, no buttons and no receipt to wait for.

If the meal is hot food, the last step is the Smart Cooker™ beside the fridge: put the sealed pod in, and it heats by induction in under 7 minutes. The pod is never opened before it is eaten, which is also why the cabinet does not leave a break room smelling of somebody else's lunch.

Micromart, which makes the Smart Fridge™, publishes 99.5% product recognition accuracy and 99.9% store uptime for the platform. Those are Micromart's published figures, not Raptor's measurements.

What happens around the food

Two things run in the background and neither asks anything of the building. The fridge holds 32 to 38°F and its temperature is tracked around the clock with alerts, so a cooling problem is a message to Raptor rather than something a tenant discovers. And anything past its freshness window cannot be sold: the cabinet will not let it go out, which is a different standard from a shelf that somebody is supposed to check.

Every cabinet also reports what it is doing. Most faults are fixed remotely before anyone in the building notices, and a tenant who does need to report something uses the code on the cabinet, which opens the help page with their building already filled in. The building itself gets a usage report every month: what sold, when, and how restocking performed.

The three are often treated as the same purchase. They ask the building for different things and they give tenants different things.

Frequently Asked Questions

Vending and micro markets in San Antonio

Who is the best vending company in San Antonio for office buildings?

That depends on what the building needs, and the honest way to answer it is to say what to compare. Ask whether the food is hot or only cold, whether anyone has to be on site to serve it, what the building is charged, whether the operator reports what is actually being used, and who is responsible when something stops working.

Raptor Vending was the first company in Texas to put a Smart Fridge™ and a Smart Cooker™ together, so a cabinet serves chef-made meals hot rather than cold. The building is charged no placement fees and no minimums, and is never invoiced for the program. Every cabinet reports to a portal Raptor built, and the building gets a usage report every month without asking.

Does a vending machine or micro market cost the property anything?

Raptor charges the building no placement fees and no minimums, and never invoices the building for the program. There is no monthly cabinet fee and no subsidy to find.

What the building does pay for is its own side of the install: a dedicated 30A, 120V circuit for the Smart Cooker™, and a network connection, either WiFi or a hardwired Ethernet cable. One port is enough; Raptor splits it to the rest of the equipment. Tenants pay for what they take, and a chef-made entrée is $12.50.

What is a smart cooler, and how is it different from a micro market?

A micro market is the older idea: open shelves and a cooler in a break room, with a self-checkout kiosk beside them. Nothing is locked, so the honour of the room is the security.

A smart cooler is a single locked cabinet. The door opens only after a card or a phone is tapped, cameras inside track what is lifted out, and the charge is made when the door shuts. There is no kiosk, nothing to scan and no queue. The Smart Fridge™ is a smart cooler, and the Smart Cooker™ beside it heats a sealed meal, which is the part a micro market cannot do.

Is there a vending machine in San Antonio that serves hot meals?

Yes. The Smart Cooker™ heats a sealed, chef-made meal in under 7 minutes using induction, not a microwave, so the meal comes out evenly hot and the cabinet does not fill the room with smells. Each tower heats three meals at once, so several people can eat at the same time.

The meals come from Southerleigh Hospitality Group. They sit chilled and sealed in the Smart Fridge™ until someone takes one, and they are heated in the pod they were sealed in.

How does Raptor prevent theft without a cashier?

The cabinet is locked. It opens only once a payment card or a phone has been verified, so nobody reaches the food without being identified first. Computer vision inside tracks what leaves the shelf, and the charge matches what was taken.

This is the difference from open-shelf micro markets, where anybody can walk past and take something. In the 2023 Automatic Merchandiser survey, most micromarket operators put their losses at 3% to 7%.

Is there a minimum headcount for a vending machine or micro market?

No. There is no minimum headcount and no revenue minimum, and the building is never invoiced for the program.

Headcount still shapes the configuration rather than the eligibility. A building of a few hundred people is usually served by two Smart Fridge™ cabinets and one Smart Cooker™, and capacity is added as demand shows up in the usage data rather than guessed at the start.

Who does the marketing to tenants?

Raptor does. The company was founded by marketing people and runs each location like a campaign rather than a placement: signage at launch, tastings, and Raptor Rewards, the rewards program that runs by text message. There is no app and no points to collect. A member gives a mobile number, and offers arrive as texts.

The building gets a usage report every month: transactions, popular items, usage patterns and restock performance.

What food is in the cabinet, and who cooks it?

Southerleigh Hospitality Group cooks it. Their restaurant, Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery, has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand three years in a row. The meal brand is Sense of Occasion.

There are 16+ entrées in rotation, with gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and keto options, and the menu rotates. Alongside the meals the cabinet carries snacks and drinks. Every entrée is $12.50.

How long does installation take in San Antonio?

It starts with an infrastructure assessment, a 30 to 45 minute visit to look at electrical capacity, the network and where the cabinets would go, followed by a written proposal within five days.

From a signed agreement, allow four to six weeks, and most of that is the building's electrical work rather than anything Raptor does. Once the circuit and the network connection are in and tested, putting the cabinets in takes two to four hours. No construction and no kitchen.

Can an apartment complex get a micro market in San Antonio?

Yes. In a residential building the same cabinets run as a resident Smart Café, usually in the lobby or an amenity space, open at any hour without anyone staffing it.

The arrangement is the same as in an office building: no placement fees, no minimums, the property provides the circuit and the network connection, and residents pay for what they take.
